Motijheel Model School and College has always been one of the most prestigious educational institutions in Dhaka, Bangladesh. For those of us who graduated in the 1993 batch, this institution was not just a place for education but also a platform that shaped our values, discipline, patriotism, and friendships that continue even today. This article is dedicated to sharing the journey of my student life, the remarkable history of our school, and the proud achievements of the Batch ’93 family.

Family Background and Early Education

I am Md. Shahajunnun Ullah Mojumder, son of Md. Anowar Ullah Mojumder and Mrs. Maksuda Khatun. My father was a respected crime lawyer and a member of the Bangladesh Judge Court Bar Council. Later, in 1990, he changed his profession and joined the Bangladesh Revenue Board as a customs officer. He retired in 2009 as a superintendent.

My mother, Mrs. Maksuda Khatun, served as an assistant teacher at Motijheel P & T Primary School. Because of her job, I grew up in the AGB Government Colony in Motijheel. I completed my education at my mother’s institution until class three, following which I gained admission to Motijheel Ideal School for class four.

Later, I moved to Motijheel Model School and College, where I completed my SSC in 1993 under the Dhaka Board.

School Leadership and Pride

During my school years, our respected headmaster was Mr. Yakub Ali, and the assistant headmaster was Mr. Harunur Rashid. Under their strong leadership and guidance, Motijheel Model School achieved a historic milestone in 1992 by becoming the number one school in Bangladesh, as recognized by the Ministry of Education. This remains a proud achievement for every student of our institution.

School Environment and Shifts

The school operated in two shifts:

  • Morning Shift: for girls

  • Day Shift: for boys

As a boy, I attended the day shift, where I built unforgettable friendships and enjoyed a vibrant environment filled with academics, cultural activities, and sports.

Extracurricular Activities and Campus Life

Our school believed in the all-round development of its students. Alongside regular academic learning, we were encouraged to participate in:

  • Sports Competitions: Both school and national-level games.

  • Scouting Programs: Building leadership and teamwork skills.

  • Cultural Programs: Celebrating creativity through music, drama, and events.

  • Picnics and Camping: Strengthening friendships and exploring teamwork.

  • Physical Training: Promoting discipline and fitness.

The school provided well-equipped science laboratories and introduced subject-based group divisions from class nine. Students could choose science or commerce streams. I selected commerce because of my keen interest in Business Studies.

Patriotism and Values

Motijheel Model School and College was not only about books and exams—it was about shaping character. We were taught how to love our country and use our knowledge for the betterment of the nation. Every student was inspired with a sense of patriotism, discipline, and responsibility.

The bond among students was always friendly, both among boys and girls, creating an atmosphere of respect and lifelong connections.
